The BDO Namibian Open Squash Championships started yesterday morning at Wanderers in the capital where, among others, Namibian-born Dené van Zyl will defend her 2022 Open women’s title.

The tournament will be broadcasted live from 16:00 daily by Namibia Media Holdings’ NTV team on all the Facebook pages of Republikein, Sport Wrap and Namibian Sun.

This year, the Namibian Squash Association will present a professional division for the first time. Sixteen female and male players in the Professional Squash League (PSA) will face each other. Amateur men will compete in the A and B division while there is only an A division for women..

Top ranked players from South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia, Zimbabwe and as far as Sri Lanka will grace the country with their presence.

Egypt’s squash sensation, Abdelrahman Abdelkhalek, stands tall as the number one male seed in the PSA event of the BDO Namibian Squash Open.

With his incredible skill set and relentless determination (world ranking 168th), the Egyptian looks set to dominate the court and showcase his prowess to the world.

Second-ranked in the men’s competition is Samuel Temitope (Nigeria, 284th in the world), followed by two compatriots, Gabriel Olufunmilayo (298th) and Adegoke Onaopemipo (244th).

The top seeded women include Menna Walid (Egypt, 103rd in the world), Rofiat Abdulazeez (Egypt, 205th) and Busayo Olatunji of Nigeria (194th).

The competition concludes with the finals on Saturday afternoon.
