Pirates will survive – Jacobs

Limba Mupetami
Katutura team Orlando Pirates find themselves at the bottom of the DebMarine Premiership log with eight points from 15 matches played.

Considering their current position, even the most devoted Pirate fans will have to acknowledge that lifting the club out of their bottom standing will be a tough task.

However, Woody Jacobs, who has returned to the club after a short stint with Matebele FC in Botswana, is hopeful that the club will climb out of the relegation zone.

He said he is confident that with all stakeholders – management, players, technical team, and supporters – rallying together, the Pirates will be able to endure.

“What's done is done; we have to salvage what we have and push through. I’m confident that with the right mentality, belief, desire and commitment, we can turn fortunes around and survive,” says Jacobs.

Stronger team

Pirates have brought in some players to strengthen the squad. They acquired Ghana’s versatile midfielder, Kofi Awoonor, who previously played for FK Decic Tuzi FC in Montenegro.

The team have also secured the services of left-back Promise Gurirab from Blue Waters.

Patience Gaseb also makes a return to the club from Mighty Gunners.

Aside from Pirates, teams Civics and Life Fighters also find themselves at the bottom of the table. Civics is 14th on the log with 12 points, just a point ahead of Life Fighters, who sit 15th on the log.

Pirates were scheduled to face Tigers on Saturday and Civics on Sunday, but both matches were postponed.
