T. Junction, Extreme Eagles crowned Katuna Nghee tourney champs

Soccer team T. Junction and netball team Extreme Eagles were crowned champions of the recently concluded Katuna Nghee tournament held at the club’s stadium in Omungwelume, Ohangwena Region.

The third edition of the tournament attracted 20 soccer teams and four netball teams competing for glory.

Soccer winners

T. Junction claimed the top prize, walking away with a N$5 000 cash prize, accompanied by a floating trophy and 18 gold medals.

In second place was Hotline, which received a N$2 500 cash prize, a floating trophy, and 18 silver medals.

Aguna and Katuna Nghee placed third and fourth, respectively, with each team receiving N$1 250.

Netball winners

In netball, Extreme Eagles dominated, earning a N$1 800 cash prize, a floating trophy, and 12 gold medals.

Extreme Dreamers claimed second place with N$1 000 and 12 silver medals.

Katuna Nghee’s first team came third, receiving N$800, while its second team placed fourth and received N$400.

Community support

Tournament organiser Ndatipo Shomongula, affectionately known as Mr. Katuna Nghee, congratulated the winners and thanked all the teams and participants for their dedication.

He also expressed gratitude for the community’s support, noting a significant turnout of spectators and local businesses operating stalls at the event.

“There were more spectators, and the overall number of attendees was bigger than ever before,” Shomongula remarked.

Special recognition was given to Ongenga Constituency Councillor Mathew Shikongo for his generous pledge to sponsor next year’s soccer and netball winners with kits and to cover registration fees for the second-place teams.

While celebrating the success of the third edition, Shomongula emphasised the importance of continued investment in sports.

“We hope to see greater involvement from the government, businesses, investors, and individuals to help us achieve the goal of upgrading our sports facilities to stadium-level standards,” he remarked.
