Henry Mudge IV and Wilmari Woest were crowned the 2024 Rössmund Open Champions last weekend at the Rössmund Golf Course, held jointly under the auspices of the Namibian Amateur Golf Union (NAGU) and the Namibian Amateur Ladies Golf Union (NALGU).

Wilmari is no stranger to Rössmund events, however this tournament was something special as she was the first recipient of a brand-new floating trophy in memory of a Rössmund golfing legend, the late Erika Schlusche.

The field consisted of 84 players from every corner of Namibia, competing in their respective divisions. Weather conditions were excellent for the duration of the weekend, though a little hot and humid at times.

The best first-round score (145 gross) came from Mudge, shooting a three-under-par 69 gross in the afternoon to add to his four-over morning round 76 gross; giving him a five-shot lead over nearest rival Kyle Johnson (150 gross) with Stefanus Bonifatius & Charlie Lohmann a further one shot adrift (151 gross).

Meanwhile Mario Polster was in charge by the B Division (156 gross) with senior golfer Eddy van Wyk leading the charge in the C Division (87 gross).

In the Ladies Division Wilmari Woest had a one-shot lead over Wilna Bredenhann, on 85 and 86 gross respectively. Lester Hess headed up the stableford division on 36 points. Both Wilmari & Henry were able to keep their feet firmly on the peddle during day two.

Prior to the prize-giving NAGU president Toady Gurirab and NALGU representative Ceheste Walters thanked the sponsors and all those concerned for a wonderful tournament. Rössmund Golf club captain George Murasiki thanked his committee, especially chairman Marco Swarts for their concerted effort in getting together the sponsors to enable the tournament to go ahead.

Organisers expressed a special thank you to co- sponsors WB Hardware; Castle Lite; Kodo Drilling; Swakop Tools Spares & Hire; Absolutely Perfect Water; The Pro Shop and WiWWEnergy (WEM).
