Namibia’s leading digital enabler, MTC, has once again demonstrated its dedication to giving back by organizing the MTC Connect Run – a qualifying event for the prestigious Two Oceans ultra-marathon in South Africa.

Scheduled for 1st March in Windhoek, the race will offer runners the opportunity to compete in 5 km, 10 km and 21 km categories, with total prizes exceeding N$70 000.

The competition will recognize the top three runners in the elite, masters and veterans categories for both male and female participants.

Significantly, 100% of the event’s proceeds will be donated to the Namibia National Children Hearts Trust, a foundation dedicated to ensuring that Namibian children born with congenital heart diseases receive affordable and sustainable medical care, regardless of their financial status.

Speaking at the event launch, Dr Fenny Shidhika, founder of the trust, underscored the importance of sustainability, particularly given Namibia’s shortage of trained medical professionals to care for congenital heart disease patients.

“The best part about this fundraising initiative is its dual benefit – it supports those with heart conditions while also promoting fitness among participants,” Dr Shidhika remarked.

MTC’s corporate affairs manager, John Ekongo, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the role of wellness in both personal and professional productivity.

“There is no business continuity when employees’ health is compromised. We encourage the public to participate in the MTC Connect Run and to prioritize their well-being,” he said.

To encourage participation, the first 500 registrants will receive complimentary T-shirts and a swag bag, while the first 100 registrants will be awarded recovery boot vouchers, redeemable at ONETWENTY Sports & Fitness Performance Centre.

Additionally, the 21 km event will be officially sanctioned by Athletics Namibia and recognized as a qualifying race for the Total Sports Two Oceans Marathon’s 21 km participation.

Runners and supporters alike are urged to spread the word and sign up before the 15 February deadline. Registration is available at https://q.my.na/XYIZ, with fees ranging from N$50 to N$150, depending on the selected race category.

Participants can conveniently make payments using MTC’s newly introduced transactional product, MTC Maris.
