Khariseb, Dausab win Benevolent second dominoes tourney

Team Pirates’ Smithley Khariseb and Therence Dausab won The Benevolent Club’s second dominoes tournament hosted at The Coffee Tree Restaurant in Windhoek last weekend. The highly anticipated competition proved to be an exciting and memorable event.The tournament brought together 20 teams from Usakos, Rehoboth, Karibib and Windhoek for a day filled with intense competition, camaraderie and fun. The top eight teams in the competition advanced from the pool stages to the knockout rounds and then the grand finale.
A total of four prizes were awarded, with teams battling fiercely for the top spots. However, beyond the competition, the event was about the joy of the game, the friendships formed, and the shared love for dominoes.
Winners
The energy throughout the day was electric, with each round offering new surprises and strategic moments. In the end, Team Pirates, comprising Smithley Khariseb and Therence Dausab from Usakos, reigned supreme, claiming The Benevolent Club’s overall domino title.
Reflecting on their victory, the champions expressed appreciation and honour. “Dominoes is more than just a game - it keeps us focused, sharpens our thinking, and brings people of all ages and backgrounds together.
“It challenges us and fuels our drive for success. The recent tournament at The Coffee Tree Restaurant was an incredible experience, with great competition, a fantastic atmosphere and outstanding organisation.
“A big thank you to the hosts and all the competitors for making it such a memorable event. This tournament truly showcased the unifying and enriching power of dominoes!" they remarked.
Runners-up recognised
The competition’s second place went to Manfredt Gaoseb and Vincent Kariseb from RYP Rehoboth 2, while Danzel Bruwer and Jaquille De Wee from Usakos’ Team Miraculous Wonders secured third place.
Reflecting on the experience, Bruwer said: “I witnessed a completely different side of dominoes that I had never seen before. The spirit and sportsmanship were truly inspiring. I strongly believe that dominoes has the potential to become an official sporting code in Namibia, given how many people love the game. I’m excited about what the future holds for dominoes in our country.”
In fourth place were Jeandre du Plessis and Kelly-Ann Williams from Team DK and DQ (Domino King and Domino Queen), based in Windhoek.
Other teams who signed up for the tournament were The Unknown, Dot-to-Blank, Sugar & Spice, The Last Ones, The Sliminoes, The Night Crawlers, RYP Rehoboth 1, Rehoboys, The Spades, The Ultimate All Blacks, The Smart Players, The Henroy Players, Du Toit Stasie, The Ultimate Zavior Clark and Shan-Mare Griqua, NuffSaid, and Die Ouens.
Special recognitions
Competition organisers extended heartfelt appreciation to The Coffee Tree Restaurant, Tersia du Plessis and Blossom Koopman, who did the design and artwork on the domino clock, as well as Lourette Liebenberg, Karin Elliott from The Coffee Tree Restaurant, Tinah Rajaal and Ndeshi Fikameni from Rubix Media Productions for their contributions to the success of the event.
Rajaal, who is the project manager of the Rejuvenation Youth Program (RYP), registered six teams for the tournament, three of which finished in the top three spots.
She, in turn, extended gratitude to the organisers and emphasised that the tournament was a powerful motivator for her young participants.
One of the event organisers, Britney Dos Santos, commended the players for their sportsmanship and enthusiasm: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended and made this event one for the books. The passion and energy displayed were a testament to the success of the tournament.
“We’re already looking forward to our next event, where we anticipate even more fun, prizes, and unforgettable moments. Stay tuned for future updates - we can’t wait to welcome back returning players and new faces alike!”
