Fitness counts at Gondwana Moonraker Ridge trail run
Off-road running
Men's and women's 21 km winners Thomas Miller and Ottilie Aimwata are renowned athletes who have won this event before.
Over 100 participants gathered for the recent fourth annual Gondwana Moonraker Ridge Trail Run, held just east of Windhoek in the best Namibian rainy weather with light drizzle. The event kicked off promptly at 06:30 with the 21 km race, followed shortly after by the 10 km and 5 km participants. The challenging routes wound through rugged terrain, riverbeds, valleys, and hills.
As runners tackled the well-marked trails within the 2,000-hectare nature reserve, their family members and companions enjoyed a leisurely morning at the Moonraker Outdoor Adventure Restcamp, sipping coffee and exploring the farm. Children delighted in the chance to meet the local animals, offering plenty of friendly pats along the way.
After the race, participants, their families and friends relaxed to live music and enjoyed a delicious spitbraai lunch together.
The top three women and men in both the 10 km and 21 km races were awarded generous accommodation vouchers from Gondwana Collection Namibia. Meanwhile, participants in the 5 km fun run had the opportunity to win Gondwana vouchers in a lucky draw.
Organisers expressed heartfelt thanks to hosts Moonraker Restcamp for their tireless efforts in making the event a success and truly a memorable day. OSH-Med International and the dedicated volunteers from various Gondwana departments also ensured that the runners were well cared for along the course and at the finish line.
