Some of Namibia’s leading race horses will once again take on each other in Okahandja on Saturday as the Khomas Turf Club introduces the JSB Bet Independence Cup.

The event is poised to deliver a number of highly exciting races.

Namibia Horseracing Association public relations officer Chantel Mouton has promised an electric atmosphere.

“This is going to be an exciting day at the Okahandja Horseracing track.

“The horses are well prepared and all logistics are in place for the event,” Mouton said.

One of the country’s famous race horses, Starlile, will be one of the favourites in its own backyard given its legendary status in the open 2000 metre import category.

Starlile’s owners and fans will however be wary of other horses in the same race that are significantly younger.

Able Surprise will also be part of a stellar line-up of top horses that will compete.

Entry to the VIP section will cost N$150 while the general tickets are selling for N$50.

“We are inviting all horseracing lovers to come in their numbers and support this event.

“It is going to be a good weekend of events, but the fans must first come to the race before moving over to the final of the MTC Maris Cup,” Mouton added.

There will be a total of 16 races held at the turf, with the two main races being the 2000m race which only takes place later in the day.

Horseracing fan Mberi Kavita expressed excitement towards the event, stating that he will not miss it for the world.

“This is always something very exciting and I am looking forward towards watching the horses compete.

“There is always nice and tough competition and I know the horses are well prepared to entertain us. I always travel with my family to such events and this year will be the same,” Kavita said.
