The Windhoek Hockey Tournament is back for its third consecutive year, promising an exciting and action-packed event that will bring together schools players from across Namibia.

This year’s tournament, held from today until Saturday (13 to 15 March), features participation from 11 schools, with more than 700 boys' and girls' teams competing.

The tournament will take place at two venues: Windhoek High School and the Windhoek Affies astro at Wanderers in Pionierspark.

The competition features three leagues – first, second and third – so players of all skill levels can participate. This year, a new Under 13 age group has been added to the third league section, providing a platform for younger players to participate and gain valuable experience.

The participating schools are Windhoek High School, Windhoek Gymnasium, WAP, St Paul’s, St George’s, Private School Swakopmund, Edugate Academy (Otjiwarongo), School of Excellence, Walvis Bay Private School, Pro-Ed Akademie (Swakopmund) and Keetmanshoop Private School.

The Windhoek Hockey Tournament serves as the first competitive event for these players, preparing them for other tours and competitions throughout the year. It also provides an opportunity to develop players who are not part of the first teams.

The matches also provide a platform for umpires’ and coaches’ development, enhancing the skills and knowledge of those involved in the sport.

Nevil Gora, the tournament organiser, says: “We are thrilled to host the Windhoek Hockey Tournament for the third year in a row.

“This event is a celebration of hockey talent from across Namibia, and we are excited to see the players, coachesand umpires come together to showcase their skills and passion for the sport.”

The tournament promises to be a memorable event for all participants and spectators, with thrilling matches and a festive atmosphere. The organizers extend their gratitude to the sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who have made this event possible.

The annual event aims to promote the sport of hockey, provide a platform for player development, and foster a sense of community and sportsmanship among participants.

The aim is to grow the event to even bigger status in years to come and to include more schools from all over Namibia and internationally.
