'Best of luck to our teams'

The Namibian Hockey Union on Friday hosted the official send-off of its national men’s and women’s teams that are set to compete at the Indoor Africa Cup in Swakopmund from Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 May.

The tournament hosted at the MTC Dome will feature South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia’s teams competing for the prestigious trophies for men and women, as well as two spots for each gender to the 2025 FIH Indoor World Cup in Croatia.

Deputy minister of sport, Emma Kantema-Gaomas, wished the teams luck, encouraging them to perform at the best of their abilities and ensure that they win the cup which would see them qualifying for the next indoor World Cup.

“Hosting the Africa Cup in our country presents an opportunity for Namibian fans to go and witness the talent of the men’s and women teams.

“It is also a chance for them to rally behind our teams and filling the arena with an electric atmospheres.

“I wish the teams all the best of luck and hope that they can win the tournament which will enable them to qualify to the next World Cup,” Kantema-Gaomas said at the ceremonial hand-over of the national flags, conducted at the Network Media Hub (NMH) in Windhoek.

The event will be broadcast live on Network Television from 23 to 26 May.
