Rhythmic gymnasts dazzle at qualifying event

A total of 350 rhythmic gymnasts from nine clubs across the country displayed extraordinary showmanship in the second national qualifying event held at the Windhoek Showgrounds last weekend.

Co-hosted by Parkies Rhythmic Gymnastics and Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, the three-day competition saw gymnasts aged from five to 19 years, from Level 1 to the Senior Olympic level put it all on the line for a coveted spot in the national competition in October.



Senior, Junior, Pre-Junior winners

The event highlighted incredible talent, with the highest scores achieved by Joy Lana Kabooy from Walvis Bay Gymnastics Club in the Senior level, Kayla Duchaine from Elite in the Junior level and Meggi Shiweda also from Elite in Pre-junior level.



HP categories

In the high-performance (HP) categories, Jessica Shituna from Windhoek Rhythmic Club claimed the highest score in HP4, with Karlie Conradie and Zara Duchaine from Elite topping HP2 and HP1, respectively.



Levels 10 to 8

Level 10 saw Christina Theron from Walvis Bay Gymnastics Club take the top position. Gabriella Mouton, representing Elite, earned the highest score in Level 9 and Jana Risser from also Windhoek Rhythmic Club was the top performer in Level 8.



Levels 7 to 5

The Level 7 highest score was achieved by Lily Hahn of Windhoek Rhythmic Club, with Wanona Immanuel, representing Walvis Bay Gymnastics Club securing the Level 6 top spot. Daniela Chikwara from Walvis Bay Gymnastics Club led Level 5 with the highest score.



Levels 4 to 1

Janai Kauami, from Elite, was the highest scorer in Level 4, while her teammate Annabel Oosthuizen claimed the top spot in Level 3. Le-Yah Cloete from Parkies and Lienke Holmes from Ocean View tied for the highest scores in Level 2.

Level 1 was dominated by Casey Sparg (International School Walvis Bay).

Main organisers Uschi Bence of the Parkies club and Eleonora Karamfilova of Elite highlighted the importance of the event, as it brought invaluable exposure to the young rhythmic gymnasts.
