The Chairman's Cup, which saw the Committee taking on the Members, was contested at Walvis Bay Golf Club last weekend. Thirty-nine players, split into 32 members and seven committee members, teed off in ideal weather conditions and playing a bogey plus format.
There was a lot bantering between the two camps. The committee played in blue, with the members in red. There were no real runaway indicators after the first nine holes and the standings remained close until the end.
When all was said and done, the Members won with 3.2 against the 3.4 of the committee members.
Anna's Inn was the generous sponsor of the event, with Andre Burger on hand to hand out the prizes. Winning the competition was Franko Venter on plus 5. Henjan van der Hyde on plus 3 followed in second position, winning a count-out against Thomas Wolff and Chris Fourie, all on plus 3.
Nearest to the pin prizes on hole 2 and 11 were both won by Wayne “Shakespeare” Hart, with Kevin Wentzel winning on number 18. There were six two-clubs on the day.
The Seniors competition that was played on Thursday was won by Peter Davidson with 37 points, with Eben Bergh second on 35 points. Third place went to Tienie de Wet.
This coming weekend is the Rubicon Walvis Bay Open, with three divisions all playing 36 holes on Saturday and a stableford competition for those not playing in the medal event.
