Big turnout for Jaggie Challenge at WBGC

Otis Daniels
Forty players in close to 40 degrees Celsius temperature turned out to play in the first of two legs of the Jaggie Challenge at the Walvis Bay Golf Club.

The format on the day was a better ball bogey plus. The winners were Amandio Sardinha and Michael de Barros on plus 10, winning a count out from Jonas Niilenge and Juvino Polster. The third place went to Andre Burger and Rocco Viljoen on plus 8. The junior event was won by Emery and Emilio Maboh on plus 8 with Samuel Nel and Weitz van Niekerk in second on plus 7. Two clubs were registered by Francois Binneman and Pieter Fox.

This weekend will be another big one for the club. On Friday night the Joker will be at N$ 38 000 with only 21 cards left in the draw. The Joker pot was N$36 000 and Wynand and Tienie [again] were drawn from the barrel, only for them to draw the 6 of diamonds and leave the pot untouched.

The second General Knowledge Quiz will also be held starting at 19:30. There will be at least 10 subjects of various general knowledge. The entry fee is 50.00 for a team of two with all funds generated going to the Cancer Association in Swakopmund.

Saturday's golf is a double sponsored event with Jaggies and Fox Designs as co-sponsors. The format will be a better ball with the first 9 will be Stableford and the second 9 Medal. You subtract the Stableford score from the medal score and the lowest score wins. There will also be a couple of slots for the juniors.

Last weekend with the PGA Championship, WBGC ran a golf pool which was comfortably won by Francois Binneman who pocketed N$1 260 for his efforts. Anton van Rensburg and Altus van der Westhuizen shared the second place. Each earned N$420. Thanks to all those who played. We will do it again for the US Open next month. The Seniors was won by Eben Bergh with 37 points with Chris Bothma second on 36 points. Rory Wolhuter was third on 35 points. The bread winner was Tienie de Wet.

All members are reminded that you need to open a round before you play a round and then you need to enter your score. Failing to enter a score will automatically qualify you for a penalty round. The member's draw was again not won. JP Johnson, Kuda Chikwara, and Sam Nel were absent for the draw at 18:00.

The calendar is relatively full for the rest of the year, so please support all WBGC sponsors.
