The Steve’s Takeaway Betterball competition, featuring two hidden holes (one on each nine where both scores counted), took place this past weekend in the absence of Anton Welgemoed. The competition demonstrated that even with the betterball allowance of 85% applied, higher handicappers could still excel. Attie van der Westhuizen, who shot a personal best of 63 nett and lost two shots for his efforts, and Shane Westerdale emerged as the winners with a score of 48 points on a count-out over Herman Smidt and Bossie Bosman, who secured second place with 45 points.
Third place was also decided by a count-out for the second week in a row. Kevin Wentzel and Sam Nell clinched it with 44 points. Shane also won the closest-to-the-pin on number 2, while Chris Heunis took the prize on number 18. Jonas Niilenge, Charles Shayamano, and Wynand Moller shared the money from the three 2 clubs.
