Gallants must fight through fatigue

Relegation-threatened Marumo Gallants will play a fourth match in the space of nine days when they take on fellow strugglers Chippa United on Wednesday, but coach Raymond Mdaka says they have to dig deep despite the fatigue.

Gallants are unbeaten in the three games they played in the space of six days – first in the African Confederation Cup against FC St Eloi Lupopo and the two DStv Premiership clashes, where they got four vital points against Royal AM last Wednesday and Kaizer Chiefs away on Saturday.

They now take on Chippa United as they return to Polokwane in a match that could be key in the battle against potential relegation.

"There is no other plan other than soldiering on," Mdaka said, pointing out that Ivorian defender Ismael Toure will be back from suspension after missing the 1-1 draw with Chiefs at Soccer City.

"We’ll try and alter some of the key areas within the team to make sure that even if some players get a bit tired, we're able to maintain our plans. But honestly, it is a bit difficult, and we need to understand that we need to honour those fixtures.

"Mentally, we need to be prepared. And we have done good in terms of our recovery, because after travelling, after playing back-to-back games, you must make sure that the players are OK," he added.

Second from bottom, Gallants are only two points behind Chippa, who sit in 14th place.
