Siyauya clarifies NFA appointments

Namibia Football Association Secretary-General Charles Siyauya says the association has been transparent in appointing individuals ever since the new leadership assumed office.

The remarks come after sources in football circles began to question and notice some new faces frequenting the NFA headquarters.

Siyauya confirmed that some well-known figures have been seen around the office but clarified that most of them are there solely for consultancy purposes.

“NFA is a public office, open to the public to visit or make enquiries. As new leadership, we/I sometimes consult those who were here before us,” Siyauya said.

The Secretary-General, who was appointed under the new leadership, also rebuffed claims of secrecy within the association.

He stated that all appointments made recently at the association were announced publicly.

“If you have a specific person or appointment that was made in secrecy, according to your sources, just mention the name directly, and I will be honest with you.

“I’m always truthful with the media because it is through the media that the NFA reaches its target audience. So, we need each other and have nothing to hide.”

One of the appointments that sparked controversy was that of former NFA Secretary-General Franco Cosmos.

It was, however, explained that Cosmos’s appointment as Director of Membership, Governance, Compliance, and Legal Affairs at the NFA resulted from a court agreement.

The court found that Cosmos’s dismissal from his previous position was unfair and asked the football association and Cosmos to reach a settlement agreement amicable to both parties.

Cosmos, who had served as Secretary-General, was dismissed on allegations of insubordination.

He, however, won his legal dispute, which resulted in his reappointment.

The NFA expressed confidence that Cosmos’s leadership and expertise would contribute significantly to the continued growth and development of Namibian football.
