Khomas Nampol FC coach Fortune Eichab says his team is looking forward to this weekend’s fixtures in the Debmarine Namibia Premier Football League following their unexpectedly early exit from the MTC Maris Cup about a fortnight ago.

His team has had time to go back to the drawing board after their painful 3-0 defeat to King Kauluma Palace in the round of 16.

The log leaders will now face Okahandja United on Saturday, and Mighty Gunners on Sunday, both to be played at Unam Stadium in Windhoek.

Speaking to Sport Wrap yesterday, Eichab expressed excitement towards this weekend’s fixtures, stating that they will attempt to get the maximum points.

“We are looking forward to this weekend’s fixtures, because we got a chance to rest for two weeks which was enough to rectify our mistakes.

“Everyone is aware that we got a hammering at the hands of King Kauluma Palace and that is why it is important for us to bounce back and get maximum points this weekend,” Eichab said.

The fact that their two nearest rivals will both be on the road makes Eichab believe that his team has a chance to stretch their lead at the top of the table.

Khomas Nampol leads the log with 18 points followed by second-placed Young African FC (also on 18), while African Stars are in third with 15 points.

Mighty Gunners are in a solid fourth position, within reach of the top three as they also have 15 points.

“The fact that this is our home matches gives us the added advantage to make sure that we do not allow the rest of the teams to come any closer to us.

“As a team, our aim is to maintain our position at the top and also to give ourselves breathing room by expanding on the points difference.”
