GAC Investment recently handed over a N$300 000 sponsorship to be availed over three years to the Deon Hotto Foundation (DHF) in support of its sport and football facility development initiatives in Swakopmund.

Godwin Cloete, the CEO of GAC Investments, travelled with DHF chairperson, Carl Pesat to Johannesburg for the signing of the partnership agreement with Deon Hotto.

“Today’s donation goes a long way to enable our vision to build world-class facilities in Mondesa and inspire, find and develop the next Deon Hotto.

“DHF is committed to support underprivileged children and communities through sport development. Together, we can and will continue to do more for the underprivileged children in our communities,” Hotto (34) said.

Taking hands

Established in 2011 and currently operating across Namibia, GAC Investments is a well-established business which provides specialized services both onshore and offshore. It offers tailored waste management, surveying, consulting, and fuel supply solutions.

The DHF was officially launched in Windhoek in June 2024. Since then N$3 million was pledged for the development of a stadium with a 10 000 seating capacity in Mondesa suburb in Swakopmund, which is the hometown of professional footballer Deon Hotto.

Three DH Sports Facilities (each accommodating two 5-a-side football courts and a netball court) will also be built in Swakopmund, Omaruru and Okahandja.

According to the 10-year outline of the envisioned projects, the construction of the first DH Sports Facility would have commenced in 2024, with completion set for 2025.

“The Foundation will in due course provide an update on the land acquisition and development process. We submitted an application for land for the construction for the Deon Hotto Sport Facility and are eagerly waiting for it to be tabled to the municipal council of Swakopmund for consideration,” explained Pesat.

Win-win situation

The DHF also announced that Hotto, a national team footballer who professionally plies his trade as a left winger for Orlando Pirates in South Africa, recently signed an influencer partnership agreement with the Namibian Tourism Board (NTB) as brand ambassador for one year.

Hotto joined Orlando Pirates in South Africa on 21 September 2020. The neighbouring country is a key market for the NTB and all proceeds generated through this partnership will go to the Foundation which bears his name.

Orlando Pirates edged Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in the Soweto Derby last Saturday and will take on Baroka FC in the Nedbank Cup group of 16 round on 15 February.

In the CAF Champions League, the South African side joined Al Ahly, Al Hilal, AS Far, ES Tunis, Pyramids, Mamelodi Sundowns and MC Alger in the quarter-finals. Hotto was on target for Pirates in a 3-0 victory over Stade D’Abidjan on 4 January.
