Fistball
The Old Crocks Tournament took place at SKW on Saturday, as 23 club teams from five countries competed in four categories.In perfect weather and pitch conditions, spectators were treated to 61 fantastic fistball matches.
Spokesperson for Fistball Namibia, Helmo Minz, said the event was well organised and was the biggest fistball tournament ever held on the continent.
“The excellently organised Old Crocks Cup was the largest international fistball tournament ever held on the African continent."
HeidGenossen secured the tournament victory in the women’s over-30 category. The team, consisting of German and Namibian players, emerged as the favourites early on, having won all their matches in the preliminary round.
Former world champion Theresa Schröder was in the ranks, as the women’s team beat RiWi Alpenpower in the final of the competition.
The bronze medal went to TK Hannover, who beat AF Schnägge in the match for third place. SKW from Windhoek had to settle for fifth place.
In the over-40 category, FB Elgg-Ettenhausen was the team to beat on the day, with former Swiss men’s national coach and current women’s national coach Oliver Lang leading the attack.
Elgg-Ettenhausen delivered a dominant performance, keeping all their opponents at bay throughout the competition. SV Erolzheim was still able to celebrate silver despite losing in the final.
The over-50 category was contested by eight teams in two groups.
FB Widnau secured the group victory ahead of TSV Hagen 1, Polizei Wien, and SFC in Group A. SKW emerged as group winners in Group B, followed by TSV Hagen 2, SV Moslesfehn, and MR Beringen.
FB Widnau and SKW both won their semi-final matches and thus faced each other in the final. The Swiss proved to be a size too big for the Namibian veterans, winning 2-0.
The Austrians from Laakirchen won the over-60 category ahead of VfB Stuttgart. SFC defeated the Americans, SSC, in the third-place match.
The second Old Crocks Tournament will take place on Saturday at SFC in Swakopmund. During this time, the 300 players and fans will travel across the country.
