Fistball kicks off 2025 with tourney

Cohen Fistball Club 1 (CFC 1) defended their A-category title over the weekend in the season-opening tournament on Saturday at the SKW Fistball field in Windhoek.The home team, SKW 3, also celebrated a resounding success, winning the B-category cup in the opening tournament.
The junior Under-13 category was well represented by several teams, with SKW B emerging victorious in the competition.
The matches in the senior category were played in a round-robin format, and Cohen FC 2 was one of the surprise packages of the tournament after winning all their matches to reach the final.
Cohen FC 1, the other finalist in the competition, advanced to the final after displaying fierce competition and defeating Swakopmund Fistball Club 1 and SKW 2.
It was not the best tournament for SKW 1 and SKW 2, as they finished in the last places of the opening competition.
In the semi-final between CFC 1 and SFC 1, CFC 1 held its ground, winning by just three points to advance to the final.
The Senior Final
CFC 2, led by national spiker Karl-Heinz Traut, engaged in an intense battle with their club colleagues in the final, with neither of the two best teams in the tournament able to gain a decisive lead.
CFC 1 won the first set 14-12 before sealing the victory with an impressive 11-7 win in the second set to claim the crown.
The Lower Teams
In the B category, SKW 3, consisting solely of players over 50, put in an excellent performance with several impressive wins.
CFC 3 and SKW 4 each won three games and lost two, with SKW 4 securing the bronze medal in the senior competition.
Under-13
In the Under-13 category, SKW B defeated SKW A to clinch first place, while CFC A finished third.
Karl-Heinz Traut was named Player of the Day.
Fistball Namibia spokesperson Helmo Minz announced that the national team squad began its preparations for the World Cup on Sunday.
“We also have to announce that the first league round of the Fistball season will take place on 8 March at the SFC field,” Minz said.
