Josef takes win in Russian city

Boxing
Namibian boxer Immanuel Josef was crowned the new WBA Asia flyweight champion on Thursday evening after defeating Russian Vasily Egorov at Ufa Arena in Russia, about 1460 kilometres east of Moscow. Their scheduled ten-round fight was stopped in the seventh round due to an accidental clash of heads, resulting in a bloody cut on Egorov’s forehead after which he was not able to continue the fight. With more than the minimum of four rounds completed, the judges’ scorecards came into play, with the 32-year-old Namibian awarded the result. Josef showed great resilience and confidence throughout the bout, proudly representing the Land of the Brave to push ahead his professional record to 15 wins (seven knock-outs), four losses and one draw.
