Boxing fans can look forward to see many blow-by-blow contests at the Erongo regional championship at Walvis Bay on Saturday.

The secretary-general of the Erongo Boxing Federation, Bernard Kamatoto, confirmed that more than 50 amateurs from six boxing clubs will showcase their talent at the regional showpiece hosted at the Kuisebmond community gym from 14:00 till late night.

According to Kamatoto, the Erongo regional championship means a lot for upcoming boxers.

“This is the platform where it all starts. Amateur fighters can establish themselves as serious national and international contenders.”

He explained that an Erongo team will be selected to represent the region at the national championship in Grootfontein during August.

“We thus need 13 female and male boxers, one in every weight category. We will also select a team to represent the region at the National Youth Games in Oshakati this December. These boxers will also represent the country at the Region Five Youth Games to be hosted by Namibia in 2025.”

Kamatoto extended an invitation to boxing fans to come out in numbers and support the young talent from the Erongo region on show.

“Preparations are on course. We secured the venue and the boxing ring from the municipality of Walvis Bay. We will determine the exact number of fights for this championship once we are done with the weigh-ins. The action will thus be non-stop, with crowd satisfaction guaranteed.”
