Archers take aim at Yellowstone

The Namibia national target archery outdoor championships was held over the weekend at the Windhoek Archery Club’s new range at Yellowstone Trails near Avis Dam.

The facility's inaugural competition attracted a diverse group of participants, including both local and international archers from South Africa.

The participation of the host nation’s two-time world champions Jannie Meuwesen, who won the men’s competition with the compound bow, was among the highlights.

The vice-president of the Archery Association of Namibia (AAN), Jacqueline Coetzee, was pleased with the event's success and the way the venue was received.

“The quality of the venue speaks for itself, offering top-notch facilities for the whole family. I am excited about what the future holds for archery in Namibia. We had to step up our game this weekend against the South Africans and amongst ourselves," she said.

The competition commenced under challenging conditions, with the archers facing cold morning temperatures that later gave way to windy weather throughout the day.

Compound women: 1 Lizl Kuschke (RSA), 2 Babette Taljaard (Windhoek, Namibian national winner). 3 Tanya du Plessis (RSA).

Compound men: 1 Jannie Meuwesen (Windhoek), 2 Christiaan Louw (visitor), 3 Eugene Thuynsma (Swakopmund).

Compound 50 women: 1 Amanda Viljoen (RSA), 2 Ilana Malan (Windhoek, Namibian national winner).

Compound 50 men: 1 Louan Groenewald (Windhoek, 2 Johann Viljoen (RSA).

Compound junior men: 1 Evan Meyer (Windhoek), 2 Jean-Pierre Köhne (Atlantis Archery Club).

Compound junior women: 1 Eden Keyser (Windhoek) .

Compound open men, Para-archers: 1 Jan-Lots du Toit (Atlantis Archery Club), 2 De Villiers Visser (Atlantis Archery Club).

Compound under-13 boys: 1 Janko du Plessis (Atlantis Archery Club), 2 Rainer Kruger (Windhoek).

Barebow Recurve Men: 1 Lutz Wahlers (Swakopmund Archery Club).
